The news will likely leak out somehow anyway. A good leader is in control at all times. This is what great leaders do. Make sure your team knows that you appreciate the work. Appreciating an employee can make a big impact. And, the impact that they can have on morale – and by extension, productivity – can be dramatic. Tenacity is key to becoming a great leader. When it all goes wrong, you are going to be the one everyone turns to in order to see how to act. You must be able to optimistically seek team goals despite all obstacles. Your persistence will give the group incentive to work even harder. When choosing people to work for you, try to hire diverse people. From different ages, sexes and cultures, people will offer different points of view. Do not just hire people that are like you. Doing so stifles innovation. It will also lead to failure. Listen much more than you are motivated to talk. Good leaders listen respectfully, consider ideas thoughtfully and have the ability to read the messages that lie between the lines. Really hear your employees when they speak. If they gripe or praise you, then listen up. Learn from all your employees what they have to say about the products and the buyers. The amount of information you take away will surprise you. You should identify strengths and weaknesses. If you think you have it all together, you could receive a rude awakening. Pay attention to areas you need to strengthen. Avoid getting obsessed over winning. You can easily break the entire play down into smaller groups of statistics. From here, analyze individual goals and learn from mistakes. Managers turn them into motivational goals or success measurements. If you take a step back and instead focus on creating a culture of success where you work, the wins will take care of themselves. Don’t show favoritism to certain employee’s suggestions and ideas. Listen to each person with interest, respect, and an open mind. Great leadership requires you to treat others as you wish to be treated. Stand by your promises and treat everybody fairly. Being a strong leader has a lot to do with understanding the weaknesses and strengths of team members. Understanding your team’s diversity can help you find success. Learn about your employees’ personalities and behaviors. In order to build trust, you should ask about their home life. If you want to be considered a leader, start acting like one. When you know what you personally expect from great leaders, you know what to use as your own template. Dress appropriately for work, use clean language, and always treat everyone with respect. Even when it seems pointless, go that extra mile. In this way you will demonstrate your ability to be in a position of leadership. A leadership role can sometimes make a huge demand on certain people. These demands make it hard for you to spend time doing outside interests, and spending times with friends and family. Remember, in order for you to be the best leader possible, you should make time for friends, family and other things in life. That’s why you need to take breaks and be sure not to neglect other parts of life. Decisive actions are the key to a great leader. All effective leaders need to be confident in the decisions they make and stand by them, it is the only way that people will take you seriously. People don’t want to follow those who are indecisive and wishy-washy. Changing your mind on key issues will erode the confidence you worked so hard to build. You should always look for ways to improve your leadership skills. This will provide you with success throughout your life. “Failure is the path of least persistence” The concept behind this has real meaning for me in my educational pursuits as well as when I started my online business.
Failure obviously is the opposite of success. But success has many definitions and degrees of success. Something that initially looks like a set-back or failure may actually be a door that closed for a purpose to open another onto a new horizon. But the traditional definition of failure is that crushing depressed prevailing mood of “I didn’t make it.”
Persistence is not just necessarily batting ones head against the same wall until the wall cracks. Persistence is continuing through adversity towards your goals. Having a goal, hitting a road block is a learning experience. How do you face roadblocks? Depression, frustration, open attitude as to why and how? Sometimes the roadblock is the lack of information – plan to get more info e.g. take a class or get a mentor. Sometimes the roadblock is too much information so that you feel overwhelmed – plan to get a mentor to assist you in breaking things down into chewable bites so you can advance.
When I was going through Occupational Therapy education at University of Pittsburgh, I experienced both of these road blocks. Seeking assistance, stating your goals and stating the specifics of blocks are excellent ways to get through to your desired degree. But what if it is not quite so simple? Finding a specific mentor someone you can look up to who has experience and success in a specific area is the most important. Then work with this person to establish the plan and then it is up to YOU to execute it. If you are not persistent in reaching your goal – any time you hit a road block you will be defeated and fail.
Look for mentors in anything you do and when you are moving up, look back and reach back to mentor someone else. Be persistent and support other persistent folks. That is why I became a Senior Marketing Consultant – I want to help others as I have been helped.
