Anyone Can Age Well When They Know How!

socializing dancing imagesIt’s impossible to stop aging. As you get older, you must ensure that everything you do actively contributes to a lifetime of responsible, pleasurable and memorable days. Peruse the next few paragraphs to learn to take better care of yourself as you age.

When you contort your face, you use muscles and increase the appearance of wrinkles. While this may be silly, it is a fact. When you realize that you are doing it, force yourself to stop. When you are aware of your frowning habit you will be able to break it.

Let your doctor worry about the numbers, and they will tell you if you need to focus on anything, instead spend your time focusing on more important and fun things.

Remember what you focus on with your mind is the stuff you tend to draw towards yourself.  So focus on what you want, but not what you do not want!

Always make certain you are receiving the appropriate rest for your age bracket. Getting seven to nine hours of sleep each night will help you keep a healthy hormone balance, and keep you feeling more relaxed. If you don’t sleep enough, you may have a hard time loving life and you could be more irritable.

Reduce Anxiety With These Five Simple Steps

Feelings of being overwhelmed are normal, but anxiety attacks do not have to be. There are many helpful tips that can make anxiety attacks a thing of the past.

You need to follow your doctor’s advice and communicate freely with them as you are being treated. It is up to your physician to give you a treatment plan, but it is up to you to let them know how you are progressing. It is impossible for a doctor to know what you are feeling and thinking if you fail to advise them regularly.

This simple calming technique is used by a lot of people who have to endure anxiety on an almost daily basis. If you have a sudden, unexpected anxiety attack, try this technique.

If you are just sitting around your house doing nothing, you will feel anxious. Try finding ways to occupy yourself instead, and give your mind something to think about other than your problems. You can reduce your anxieties significantly if you make a habit of practicing a hobby or doing some other sort of constructive, creative work.

Physical activity is known to produce endorphins, which will make you happy and divert your mind from the issues that are causing you stress. Furthermore, exercise is good for your overall health.

Make sure you get the proper hydration each and every day. Eating well will also help in this case. A body that is malnourished or dehydrated is more likely to suffer from anxiety. Ensure that you are eating at least three proper meals a day and drinking adequate amounts of water.

The number one thing you need to do is find what triggers your anxiety. Make an effort to understand what the root of your anxiety is and give it a name. Putting a name on your triggers makes you more aware of them, giving you greater control over your anxiety levels.

Voice what you wish to accomplish that day and how you want to spend it. Then, do everything you can to ensure your day goes how you intend it to.  Many people find that morning meditation is beneficial to stay in a calm and positive frame of mind.

Focus is a 5cent word for Meditation – A busy person can focus & grow??

I was thinking about what topic I should write on, I kept thinking about the word “focus”Focus reminded me of “single mindedness” which is a component of meditation.  Busy people attend!

How many people, maybe yourself included, are scattered multi-taskers?  These folks end their day with a feeling of exhaustion and a fuzzy mental feeling.  They spend their days busily doing two or more things at once.  Many of these folks get a lot of “stuff” done, but don’t feel they did an excellent job of any one thing.  What is missing?

Focused lack of thinking with or without physical activity is Meditation.  We have heard for a long time there are many health benefits from meditation.  They include: anxiety, depression, pain, high blood pressure, stress, mood swings, self control issues, risk taking behaviors, concentration and creativity.

According to Roger Walsh, MD, PhD during an interview with Bottom Line/Women’s Health, e-newsletter spring 2011 simple meditation is a matter of focus.

  • Focusing on a single task.  Experiencing it.  For example when folding laundry  experience the feeling of the clothing, smells etc.  Another example is chopping veggies for dinner.  Focus on the texture of the veggie, the smells, the rhythmic action of your knife when cutting.  Only attending to the task at hand, not extraneous thoughts.
  • Focusing on your breathing.  Feel the air entering through your nose, feel your belly rise with the air expanding your lungs and the slow deflating of abdomen and release of air through your nose.  Focus all your attention on this cycle of action, not extraneous thoughts.
  • Phrase or word that is meaningful to you spiritually.  Examples could be: God is Love, Peace, Bliss, or the old standby Ohm.  What ever you choose make sure it has meaning for you.  Repeat this to yourself either aloud or silently with each breath.  When extraneous thoughts occur, just redirect yourself to your phrase.
  • Meditation for those that can’t stay still may be found in Qigong, tai chi or yoga classes.
  • Dr. Walsh also says there are more complex methods of meditation and covers these more in depth in some of his books.

So what good is this meditation?  You have heard all the health benefits, but is if for real?  The act of slowing down and focusing, clears the scattered thoughts and mind – sort of like a gentle washing rain between your ears.

As little as 5 minutes at a time helps clear the mind and leave you refreshed and ready to continue with your activities.  Or, you may be refreshed and open to new ideas, new twists to an old problem, or a completely new plan.  [meditation rock & flower]

It has been said that seeing is believing.  But, in this case feeling is understanding.  Make mini-meditation a part of your day.

Challenge yourself!  Journal about how you felt before meditation and how you felt after each session.  Also note any special ideas that crossed your mind at the end of your meditation session.  Did you have insight about a problem?  Did a new avenue open up for you in your business plan?  Did you have an “a-ha moment”?
